Punta Tegge is one of La Maddalena's most loved beaches — not for its size, since it's small and cosy, but for two things it does better than anywhere else on the island: it's ideal for swimming with children, thanks to its shallow, sandy seabed, and it's the best place to watch the sun sink into the sea, drink in hand.
Where it is
Punta Tegge sits on the south-western side of La Maddalena island, just a few minutes from the town centre. Unlike many coves in the archipelago that can only be reached by boat, this one is also easy to reach by road — one more reason to add it to your itinerary even outside a boat tour.
The sea and the sand
Light, medium-grain sand and water that shifts from light blue to turquoise, with a shallow, sandy seabed that stays gentle for several metres: it's one of the calmest and safest beaches in the archipelago, ideal for young children or anyone who just wants to relax without waves.
Sunset and aperitivo
Punta Tegge faces west, looking out over the stretch of sea between La Maddalena and Corsica — which is exactly why, come evening, it becomes the island's informal meeting point. A few beach bars right on the sand stay open into the evening with music and drinks: the simplest way to close out a day at sea without even leaving the water's edge.
Nearby: Forte Santa Teresa
A short walk uphill from the beach stands Forte Santa Teresa (also called Forte Sant'Elmo), built in the late 1700s to defend Sardinia's northern coast. From the top, the view stretches across most of the archipelago — a short detour that's worth the climb, ideally right before sunset.
Seeing Punta Tegge from the water
If your tour departs from La Maddalena, ask your skipper to sail past Punta Tegge at sunset on the way back: the low evening light along this coastline looks completely different from the sea than it does from shore.
