The catamaran is the choice for maximum stability and space. It's comfortable for large groups, for families with very young children and for anyone worried about seasickness, because the platform stays almost perfectly flat even with a bit of swell.
The downside is that a catamaran often runs more on engine than on sail, losing part of the soul of sailing, and it tends to carry large groups: more people on board means a less intimate, more crowded experience.
